A Thought To Ponder - Times Have Changed

Agnes Waterhouse was accused of having had a spotted cat familiar named Sathan.
She was hanged for it in 1566.
How many of us could be accused of the same today, for simply owning a cat?

It truly is something to think about isn't it Janie? Did you see the television piece yesterday where they were showing cats with beards that looked like Adoph Hitler? I swear I wish I knew what went on in the mindsets of some people...
Let us pray this never happens to humanity ever again!
Blessings Dear!

Phyllis, I did see the piece on the kitlers. It is a delicate subject in a sense. I mean personally I see it all as jest and silliness. Much like the creator stated it was much in a Monty Phython sort of humor. Yet I also know that Hitlers crimes were so severe that to some this act of setting up this site is quite offensive.

Man will always attack that which he does not fully understand or is capable of explaining in a manner that comforts him. And although most of the time this will be a good thing, there will be those times when it runs rampant and gets out of hand.

~my oldest was quite fasnicated by the witch hunts and trials last year...we spent much time researching and reading...and those thoughts kept returning...those words...could you imagine...heartwrenching...thank you for sharing...warm wishes and brightest blessings~

I read a lot about the witch hunts when I first began practicing paganism in high school and I have to say, it caused me to stay in the broom closet for a very, very long time. I'm glad that I can breathe easy about living with my kitties (neither of whom is a familiar) and be a practicing witch and feel safe.

And sadly this insanity is still going on in certain parts of the world. Women are being accused of witches and being burned or stoned. Some of the stories I came upon doing research for my women's blog will make your stomach churn. I'd better end this now because I can see myself going into a tirade...and this is not my blog. LOL!!!!
Luv ya, Mary

Human kind...what a very strange species. Fear is a terrible fuel, hate is a terrible reaction. The behavior just continues, but it is called by different names and justified by stranger thoughts. I saw the piece on the cats and Hitler also....how is it that inhumanity can be funny in any context.
This kitten is adorable.

You and I and our "cat" familiars would have all been persecuted for having cats or even dogs that people so feared. I love how you take just a snippet of a topic, esp. on cats, always love your posts on cats and make it so profound. Is that one of your newest babies? I have a black cat and a tux. cat that I so adore.

The most famous witch hunt in my country resulted in 14 deaths in 1728 - the accusation was that they sold the rain to the Turks.

And that is only one small example....

I think that maybe I should have put a question mark after the statement that Times have Changed... I think in many instances they have changed very little... Ignorance is still Ignorance

That cat is beautiful. I know that wasn't the point. I agree that people are still very ignorant. Ignorance breeds fear and fear leads to witch hunts.

What an adorable little kitten. and if that were the case, I'd be done for. My Midnight is ONLY BLACK....no color anywhere and he is the cutest little, well, big kitty!

I'd be burned for sure. Two cats, one black. Plus, I'd have more if I had the room.

There was a write up recently on a Christian blog about how cats are actually evil - I can't believe people still believe that garbage.

Ignorance, pure ignorance...sad to think things like this still do go on in this world....

I'd be in a lot of trouble with my 9 furbabies. Especially Porkchop as he is my jet black baby with gold eyes and acts much too wise for his size.

It is a shame that in our "modern" world, people still have such fears of and prejudices against things or those beings they don't understand.

Thank you for bringing this up.
