Pumpkins, Gourds and A Few Other Things

Now mind you when I went to Tennessee it was not all fun and games with the grandkids.  I love traveling out to this area as there is such beautiful scenery as well as wonderful buys.

I wanted to do a little antiquing when I went and we were able to get a bit in.  Vincent and I had full intentions of going back to one venue on our own yet since we were called home early we missed out.  I did manage to pick up a couple items while I was out.  I love candle stick holders especially silver ones.  I found this one downtown in a little shop and had to have it.

The other item I found was this adorable spoon necklace.  A little demitasse spoon with a delicate flower at its end sculpted into a necklace.  I would have loved to have found earings to match yet I was out of luck on that one.

When we went to the Pumpkin Patch I had to pick up my annual Tennesse Pumpkin.  I choose a variety of smaller ones and also a few gourds to dry and use later.  Little ears of popping corn were also purchased as I thought they would make a cute addition to my array.

I also picked this thing up.  I will be honest and say that at the first I thought it was a huge gourd yet the more I look at it I am not sure.  It would be wonderful if it is as can you imagine the orny I could make out of this one.  It is about 14 inches wide and about 20 inches high.  My grandkids want me to make a snowman out of it.  Little do they know I do not have the talent to paint such things.  We will see what comes of it.  I will keep you posted.

I also went to a pumpkin patch near me when I returned home in hopes of finding my big pumpkin.  Once again I was disappointed and wished I had purchased in Tennessee.  Their prices are so much better and their variety is much wider.  I am learning...

I am beginning to think that even after my daughter and her family are stationed elsewhere, I still may have to venture out to Tennessee once a year or so.  A wonderful state with so much beauty.

Oh I love your antique finds. I too love silver candle holders. Your gourds are great too. I have a really unusual gourd this year too - hoping it dries nicely because it would make such a great rattle!

Love your treasures you find while in Tennessee. She is a beautiful state. I love it up in Gatlinburg especially this time of year when the trees in the mountain tops are so vibrant. Your green gourd almost has a resemblence of a watermelon, mind you a very odd shaped watermelon. I say that, because while out strolling thu a pumpkin patch right down the road from my house I came upon something that looked similar. This is very bad of me but I picked it up and dropped it. Sure enough it was a watermelon. So now my pumpkins and gourds have a melon friend. Your grandbabies are right in that he would make for a cute snowman. Blessings to you.

My Dad was born and raised in TN. At this time of year I seem to hear my genetic roots calling me home. I rarely get there but understand your desire to return over and over again. There is something about the Smokey MT. air that makes one feel saying "Bar" (bear) and "Far" (fire), make music by blowing in a jug and clogging even if you've never clogged a day in your life!

I love TN also. My Mother was from there and her people still live around Jackson, Dyersburg area. Antiguing there is so fun and looks like you got a really special find...hey, I think I know how you could get a pair of earrings to go with what you have. I'll email my thoughts to you.
Pumpkins......the two farms we have around us didn't have very good crops this year, so we ended up with pumpkinlettes instead. So I can relate.

What cute gourds! I love the character that gourds seem to possess, while pumpkins are an item of optic comfort for me. Ah, I do love this month of the year, especially as a witch, it has even more meaning and cheer! I love your holiday spirit!

I live in Tennessee and this year we were particularly blessed with an abundant Autumn harvest. I get my gourds and pumpkins at the Farmers Market in Germantown and they are amazing! Glad you came through for a visit.

I love your display! It has such a great sample of gourds. I tried planting some birdhouse gourds (your big green one), but they didn't grow. If you came to Iowa, I could hook you up with a big pumpkin!

Such treasures, each one Janie! Your little green gourd is a birdhouse gourd and it looks like maybe it was picked too soon and didn't get a chance to grow up. I have some gourds that I dried last year that are now rattles.

Your necklace Rocks! I can see why you'd like earrings to go with them?

I've had the pleasure of visiting the great state of Tennessee too...down around Chattanooga, and up on LookOut Mountain and it was awesome.

You have a Wonderful Weekend My Sister/Friend
